CYB is aimed at supporting youth whom are involved in business activities and lack adequate collateral. The program aims to encourage youth in their entrepreneurial efforts to access loans from the mainstream banking sector in order to expand their businesses and to create employment opportunities to address poverty.
1. What is CYB?
CYB is a loan guarantee program. It is aimed at supporting youth whom are involved in business activities, those without adequate collateral, so as to encourage them in their efforts to access loans from the mainstream banking sector in order to expand their businesses and create additional employment opportunities to address poverty. NYC, through CYB, is committed to empower youth to:
• Expand their businesses;
• Increase productivity and profitability;
• Create additional employment;
• Build asset base and become bankable;
• Address and alleviate poverty and
• Improve living standards.
In addition to the loan guarantee services, CYB will provide the following support services:
• Business management training. Beneficiaries are to be assisted through training during the initial stages to develop a business plan for submission to Bank Windhoek.
• Business management mentoring. Borrowers will go through mentoring once a loan is approved and advance to make success of their businesses.
2. TARGET REGIONS FOR PILOT PHASE
CYB is currently in its pilot phase and will operate in eight regions for a period of 24 months (July 2008 - July 2010). During the pilot phase CYB will limit its operation in:
Caprivi, Hardap, Karas, Oshana,Otjozondjupa, Kavango, Omaheke, Ohangwena.CYB will expand its operations to other regions of Namibia after the end of the pilot phase.
